Genesis 45:17-28
Memory Verse:
“But when they told him all the words which Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived” (Genesis 45:27).
Joseph, in Genesis 37, was hated by his brothers and they plotted to kill him, Jbut Reuben, intending to rescue him later, suggested that they throw him into the pit instead. In the absence of Reuben, Joseph’s other brothers sold him to the Ishmaelites, who also sold him to Potiphar in Egypt. His brothers went back to their father with Joseph’s tunic of many colours soaked in an animal’s blood to show him that a wild animal must have killed him. At the sight of Joseph’s blood soaked tunics, Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourned his son for many days (Genesis 37:33&34). Jacob’s spirit must have died literally by this announcement of the supposed death of his loved son.
God, however, was with Joseph and was good to him. He was favoured all the way and, eventually, became the second in command in Egypt, where his brothers later came to buy grain. Joseph, along the line, revealed himself to them and sent them with news to his father that he was still alive. At this news, the spirit of Jacob was revived.
God will also restore to you that which seems to have been lost, which has also caused your spirit to be literally dead. It will be too good to be true in your sight, yet it will be true. Your spirit will revive again for there is hope for a tree when it is cut down for at the scent of water, it will sprout again (Job 14:7-9).
Prayer Points:
1. Father, this year, let me receive that news that will revive my spirit.
2. Ask God to restore your Joseph to you.
