Text: Matthew 6:25-34
Memory Verse: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
Quietly he sneaked in, knowing that Tina’s wedding was in a few weeks. “What if dad is not well enough to walk me down the aisle?” he suggested. Soon several “what if’s” crowded her mind as she gave in to anxiety and worry. Do you allow unhealthy thoughts that fester and grow into fearful monsters in your mind? Your anxious thoughts grow into worry, then fear and steal your peace. You cannot prevent a bird from flying over your head, but you can prevent it from building a nest there!
The thief comes in various forms – worry about things you cannot change, stealing your peace; anxiety over things that may or may not happen, taking your peace; deep seated anger making you boil within, though no one knows,
raising your blood pressure. Jesus Christ came to give abundant life in spite of the problems and pressures
that life brings. He bore the chastisement for our peace on the cross (Isaiah 53:5b) and continues to bear our problems, if we are wise enough to cast them on Him (1 Peter 5:7). “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?” (Matthew 6:27). Have you been able to solve your problems by worrying about them?
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. He, the chief thief, sends out hisagents – worry, anxiety, fear, anger, envy, discontentment, disappointment, and
depression to steal, kill and destroy. You must resist him.
Prayer Points:
1. I cast all my cares on You today, Lord. Please forgive me for worrying about them.
2. Strengthen my faith in You that I may resist the devil in every way.
