Text: Matthew 22:8-13
Memory Verse: “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless” (Matthew 22:11&12).
It is now common to see people wearing matching outfits for occasions like weddings and funerals. A uniform dress code signifies that they are attending the same event, creating a sense of unity and belonging. Similarly, in ancient Jewish customs, guests at royal or noble weddings were given special garments to wear to the banquet. Refusing to wear these clothes was considered a grave insult to the host, signaling arrogance and an unwillingness to fully partake in the celebration. The host expected to see everyone properly dressed, but one man was not.
Biblically, the wedding garment symbolises the righteousness required to enter the kingdom of God. This is not self-earned righteousness, but the one imputed by Christ Jesus when He died for mankind on the cross, making believers acceptable before God (Romans 3:22). Without it, no one can stand in His presence.
Considering the number of wedding outfits you own, do you have the wedding garment that qualifies you for the eternal banquet with God? Jesus has already provided the robe of righteousness, but it is your responsibility to put it on. Without this spiritual garment, entrance into the King of kings’ banquet is impossible.
Romans 12:14 urges us to pursue peace with all people, and holiness without which no one can see God. The choice is yours; will you accept and wear the righteousness of Christ, or reject it and be unfit for His presence?
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, clothe me with Your apparel of perfection.
2. Father, be merciful unto me.
