Isaiah 8:9-13

Memory Verse:
“Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’ Concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled” (Isaiah 8:12).

Many years ago, a young man who needed a job relied on an uncle for help. The uncle was wealthy and well connected, but he was also a cultist and a polygamist. He promised to help by inviting him for a meeting at midnight, but knowing the type of person he was, the young man
declined and fled. When the nation of Judah faced a serious threat from two powerful nations, Syria and Israel, there was so much fear in the land. The king and many of his people did not trust God could deliver them, despite God’s assurances. Many people felt that entering into alliances with other equally powerful nations would be the answer to the threat. In desperation and unbelief, Judah’s king sought help from the Assyrians.
God told His people within the kingdom not to join hands with those who were seeking ungodly alliance. They must not be carried away by the fears of the ungodly in the nation, because just as the unholy alliance against them would be destroyed, so also would the ungodly alliance entered into by Judah bring problems in the future. After God delivered Judah from Israel and Syria,
their benefactors, the Assyrians, became the new threat to their existence. Many Christians have been left heartbroken because of ungodly alliances, often entered into because of the fear of tomorrow. Many seek help outside God and often end up being drawn into things that could have been avoided. Re examine that alliance before you get into it!

Prayer Points:
1. Lord, help me not to enter into any unholy alliance.
2. Please deliver me in any way that I am unequally yoked with unbelievers.
