Text:
1 Kings 19:1-10
Memory Verse:
“And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the Lord cameto him, and He said to him, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’” (1 Kings 19:9).
God can be very humorous! The Omnipresent, the Omniscient and Omnipotent God was asking Elijah to give an account of himself as though He did not already know! Indeed, like he said, Elijah had been zealous for the Lord. He had challenged the people to decide for the Lord and turn away from the worship of Baal. He had also challenged the prophets of Baal and won a ‘Show-which-God-is-thetrue-God’ contest hands down, bringing glory to the Almighty God. Yet, he ran for his life at the threat of Jezebel. What could he have done differently?
When Jehoshaphat heard that a mighty army was coming against him in 2 Chronicles 20, he also feared, but he “…set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.” After King Nebuchadnezzar’s rash decree that all his wise men be killed because they could not tell him his dream, Daniel and his friends turned to God for help in prayer (Daniel 2:16-19). When Peter and John were arrested and severely warned for preaching the Gospel, they were comforted by getting their fellow believers to stand with them in prayer (Acts 4:22-31). These all had reasons to fear. Today is your day of divine visitation and the Lord is asking, ‘What are you doing here?’ Are you where He expects you to be in your walk with Him; in serving Him? How often has God asked you this question and what was your response each time? You need to listen and understand what He is saying to you. Do not give up. He can help you.
Prayer Points:
1. Lord, You see me and know where I am, please help me.
2. I receive the grace to be where You want me to be.
