Text: Numbers 13:25-33, 14:9
Memory Verse: “There we saw the giants, (the descendants of Anak came of the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight” (Numbers 13:33).
Moses sent out a team of Israelites composed of twelve valiant men from the twelve tribes of Israel. But the team came back from their espionage with two reports: majority and minority reports. Ten of the spies saw a fertile land occupied by giants that made them seem like grasshoppers. The other two spies, Joshua and Caleb, saw a fertile land flowing with milk and honey, ready for occupation.
The two groups of spies saw the same scene from two different perspectives. The majority saw inhabitants of the land too big, too strong, and the land too fortified, impenetrable and undefeatable. The minority, with a “we-are-able” mentality, saw a fertile and productive land with the occupants as bread for the eating. Though there were challenges, they saw the unlimited God enabling them to overcome.
The outcome of your assessment of the challenges confronting you depends on your viewing lens and mindset. What you see in the face of oppositiondetermines your success or failure, victory or defeat. On a daily basis we are confronted with challenges and oppositions. Your attitude should always be a positive mindset and ‘I-am-able’ mentality, not a defeatist mindset. Avoid fear, be courageous (Isaiah 41:10, Joshua 1:9). Have confidence and faith in God, casting your cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:7) and depending wholly on Him. Never allow the environment or circumstances dictate for you or allow yourself to be distracted from your God-given dream, vision, or purpose. Be obedient to God’s Word.
Prayer Points:
1. Father, help me to always have a positive mindset in the face of challenges.
2. Father, help me to always see You rather than giants.
