What Legacy Are You Leaving Behind?

Text: Isaiah 39:4-8

Memory Verse: “Hezekiah said to Isaiah ‘The word of the Lord which you have spoken is good! For he said at least there will be peace and truth in my days’” (Isaiah 39:8).

Today, as we celebrate fathers, we challenge everyone, mothers and children inclusive, to leave good legacies. Every action you take does not just affect you, but generations to come. A classic example is King Hezekiah. Hezekiah had made a mark with God, but was told to set his house in order in readiness for death. He prayed and secured the compassionate heart of God.

The prophet, Isaiah, was still within the palace when God told him to announce fifteen extra years for the king. Thereafter, Hezekiah committed an error by showing off his house with all his possessions to emissaries from
Babylon. The prophet said to him; since they have seen it all, everything they have seen will be taken away in captivity to Babylon. Now watch this, the same person who prayed and reversed the death decree responded “Good is the word of the Lord, for there shall be peace and truth in my days” (Isaiah 39:8)! Though he knew he had an audience with God, rather  than seek God, he was satisfied that the prophecy would not happen in his time. So, rather than leave a good legacy, he left captivity for his children.

What legacy are you leaving for your children? Are you leaving a blessing or a curse; abundance or lack, freedom or captivity? The choice is yours. Do not be overly consumed with yourself, be intentional about what happens after you
are gone. Leave a good legacy.

Prayer Points:
1. The name of the Lord is a strong tower, I run into it and I am safe.
2. No divination or enchantment against my household, shall stand.
