Text:
1 Kings 18:3-5; Jeremiah 1:1,3-7
Memory Verse:
“But the Lord said to me: ‘Do not say, “I am a youth,”‘ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak” (Jeremiah 1:7).
Obadiah lived at a time when the nation of Israel had a very wicked Oking and queen at the helm of affairs. Not only did they oppress their subjects as we see in how they killed Naboth and forcefully took his vineyard, but they also provoked God. They instituted and elevated the worship of Baal to a state religion causing the people to drift away from the true God (1 Kings 18:17-19). Serving them and being true to God could not have been easy.
Jeremiah had an encounter with God early in life intimating him with his divine assignment. He had been chosen and equipped by God to reach out to the nations, though he was a youth. God had strategically positioned him just as He has positioned you to fulfil certain tasks. Such assignments are not necessarily easy, but they can be done, if the assignee is willing. The young slave girl who helped Naaman was a witness for God, though in captivity (2 Kings 5:2 & 3). She was in that bad spot for a purpose; To point Naaman to the true God (2 Kings 5:17).
Are you looking out for what God wants you to do in every situation you find yourself? God is never without a witness and He always has someone in place to execute His plan. Obadiah preserved the lives of 100 of the 7000 people who God had kept for Himself at a risk. He believed he could do something and, relying on God’s wisdom, he did it successfully. You can do something for God.
Prayer Points:
1. Open my heart and my eyes to see what You would have me do for You, Lord.
2. Help me to tap into every grace You have provided for my assignment.
